Online Places of Interest

The Institute for the Future of the Book

  • The Institute's Mission: Starting with the assumption that the locus of intellectual discourse is shifting from printed page to networked screen, the primary goal of the Institute for the Future of the Book is to explore, understand and influence this shift. The institute is a project of the Annenberg Center for Communication at the University of Southern California and is based in Brooklyn, New York.
  • if:book - The institute's weblog. Lot's of goodies feeding through here.

Read/WriteWeb - A bit techy, but Richard MacManus is focusing on ways the Web 2.0 community are attempting to empower the sharing of information via the web. Very interesting site if you just flip past the parts on programming (unless you are into those types of things).

Focus no my writing, not on my computer programs
Two full screen writing programs. Both create an environment in which you can write, on a computer, and minimize distractions. The programs, when maximized, cover the entire screen with a single background color and a single font color. Both colors are user selected.

Both programs are also free:

Online Word Processors

  • Writeboard - Very basic online text editor.
  • ZOHO Writer - Still in beta, but allows for more formatting options.
  • Writely - Now owned by Google, Writely is the top of the line in online word processing.
